Dexter Historical Society

The Dexter Historical Society is the inspired offspring that resulted from some Civil War letters in an attic being read by local teacher, Frank E. Spizuoco on July 4, 1962. Not long after that initial reading, Frank told others about what he read and soon, they were telling him of other materials of interest. He began collecting even more items as his passion for local history grew. Believing that it would be a great learning experience for students at school, Frank suggested to a senior class that they consider displaying his collection of historical items the following spring as a class project. They enthusiastically agreed. Reed’s Clothing Store on Main Street offered their location for the exhibit and it was received so well that the Dexter Jaycees sponsored more at other locations through 1965. Thanks to the coverage that the Eastern Gazette was providing, and for interest in creating a wider historical collection, many more donations started coming in. The seed was planted.

Heidi Hutchins, REALTOR@ Coldwell Banker Team Real Estate

I have had the privilege of living in the beautiful state of Maine for over 35 years. There is always something fun and different to do! You can head downtown to any of our nice cities for a unique shopping experience and dine at one of many amazing restaurants. You can relax on a pristine beach along the vast coastline or head to the crystal clear waters of our many lakes and ponds in the summer. There are miles of amazing trails to hike or ski during the fall and winter months. This great state has something for everyone and I am so fortunate to call it home! Roger Staubach quoted: There are no traffic jams along the extra mile. Outstanding customer service-what does that mean to you? For me it’s all about going the extra mile. I will go above and beyond to make sure you are a satisfied customer! Real estate is not just about buying and selling properties. It’s about finding a place that is a perfect match for you and your lifestyle. It can be an emotional journey at times, so I will strive to make it a smooth transition. Whether you are upsizing or downsizing, relocating or investing, I am here to guide you through that process. I am here for YOU!

Perkco Supply Inc.

Years ago Charles Perkins, a local potato farmer, rotated his fields with oats. He cleaned and bagged the oats and sold them to local farmers who used it for feed. Soon after, it was suggested that he offered grain mixes, so a grinder and mixer was bought and he did just that. Other suggestions came along the way, like how handy it would be to have things such as nails, fencing and baling twine, so in 1984 our retail store came to be. 30 years later we are still taking suggestions and stocking the products and materials our friends and neighbors need for all their farming and home projects. We are proud to carry the best quality products we can find and offer them at a price that can’t be beat. In addition to our wide array of retail products & services, we also offer wholesale grain & feed sales and delivery. Contact us today to learn more about wholesale options.

Skills, Inc.

Adults with intellectual disabilities want the same things we all want. A safe home, people who care about them, and the chance to use their skills and talents. At SKILLS, Inc. we support more than 185 adults with intellectual disabilities and other challenges, helping to make all of that possible. SKILLS offers community support programs, residential programs, and support in private homes across central Maine. All of our programs are staffed by trained Direct Support Professionals. In addition, we offer employment opportunities in Skowhegan and at our Skowhegan Thrift Store. Our goal is to help all of the people we support to reach their full potential. At SKILLS, we learn and grow together, and we have fun doing it. We want to be part of the community. So we get out and about as often as we can. We attend baseball games, plant gardens, and visit museums. In addition, we give back by volunteering for Meals on Wheels, serving at local soup kitchens and donating to animal shelters. A Maine Non-Profit, SKILLS was founded by families. In the 1950’s families built non-profits to support their children with developmental disabilities. SKILLS was born from those early organizations. As the children grew into adults, their needs changed. So SKILLS changed too. We started serving only adults with intellectual disabilities. To meet their needs, we added services and expanded programs. Over the last 60 years, we have grown into one big, supportive family stretching across Central Maine. Won’t you join us? Contact us today for details about our programs and services, as well as career opportunities.
